New Province of North Kalimantan


The number of provinces in Indonesia will increase to 34 provinces. The addition of the new province of Committee II agreed that Parliament and the government, represented by the Minister of Home Affairs Gamawan Fauzi during a meeting on Monday (10/22/2012) afternoon. The new province was approved by the North Kalimantan (Kaltara), which is the division of the province of East Kalimantan.

Chairman of Commission II Agun Gunanjar Sudarsa explained Kaltara Province decent formed because it has met the requirements stipulated in Government Regulation No. 78 of 2007 on the Procedure for Formation, Removal, and Merger Autonomous Region.

In addition to the requirements of Commission II also has other considerations, namely the geopolitical and geostrategic aspects. With the approval of the establishment of Provincial Kaltara means the number of provinces in Indonesia will increase to 34 provinces.
Once approved by the Commission II and the government, the establishment of provincial living Kaltara it was passed in the House of Representatives plenary session on 25 October.

To note, the House initially proposed the establishment of 19 new autonomous regions (DOB) to the government. However, in the first phase, yesterday, Panja formation II DOB Commission only proposes the establishment of nine DOB.
After going through the lobby meeting between Commission II, Minister of Home Affairs, and representatives of the Council, it was agreed only five DOB approved to be established. Besides Kaltara province, working meeting also approved the establishment of the District Pangandaran (West Java), West Coast (Lampung), as well as South and Manokwari Arfak Mountains (West Papua).
